A very exciting opportunity has arisen within our agile, growing and fast paced independent company.

Rotala Plc is a transport business providing local authorities, the public and private individuals.  We comprise of 5 companies with upwards of 1600 employees across multiple sites. 

We are looking for an experienced HR professional who has managed the full employee lifecycle and is able to engage from senior stakeholders to our frontline key workers. You will need to have previous experience of managing TUPE activity and experience of a regional or multi-site role would be advantageous.

You will be supporting operational teams to deliver the HR strategy.  With the support of a Group HR Advisor you will ensure that correct and efficient HR support is delivered to the organisation on all HR matters. A full generalist role, you will engage with Directors and Senior Managers across multiple sites and oversee ER casework, assisting with recruitment, onboarding, absenteeism, training and development, GDPR. You will also oversee any group projects such as restructures or TUPE.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Group Managers, the role is based at our Head Office in Tividale, near to Dudley but requires travel to all Group locations.

The hours of work will be 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, however you will be required to work the hours necessary to fulfil the role.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Delivering the ongoing transformation to align a cohesive HR strategy across the group, influencing uniformity and cultural change to drive HR processes effectively and robustly.
  • Supporting HR training and development programme for Directors and Senior Managers
  • Lead on activities such as performance management, absence management disciplinaries and grievances in a Unionised environment
  • Addressing absenteeism across the group monitoring including self-certification, medical certifications and the occupational health referral process including capability hearings
  • Lead on any due diligence process, documentation and TUPE consultation process
  • Ongoing revision of group wide HR procedures, updating, revising and producing a significantly modified employment manual and driver handbook, keeping up to date with legal requirements
  • Supporting talent and succession planning manage recruitment at all levels, internal and external, arranging and attending interviews where required
  • Implementation on new employment screening and suitability policy 
  • Address long term absence issues across the group, introducing Occupational Health processes and robustly manage and re-educate managers.
  • Monitoring of new drug and alcohol testing processes

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have strong HR management preferably with a logistics or engineering background, be MCIPD qualified or have equivalent level experience, have a consultative approach, have strong ER and project experience as well as being an independent thinker.

  • A strong generalist Senior HR Manager background used to working at Senior Leadership level
  • You will have worked in a standalone, autonomous role previously
  • A strong strategic and project background but also day to day HR experience and a hands-on approach
  • You will have very strong employee relations experience and be able to manage cases from end to end
  • You will be innovative and open to change
  • Trade union involvement and experience required.
  • Experience of a multi-site business is highly desirable
  • You will be CIPD qualified and ideally have your MCIPD qualification
