Workshop Manager - Tividale Depot

Role

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the role of the Workshop Manager is to manage all aspects of engineering performance in the depot, including Health & Safety, fleet planning and environmental management. Delivering excellent customer experience, while managing a governance agenda that supports legislative and policy compliance.

Identify and resolve day to day engineering issues, provide updates and escalate key issues or concerns to the line manager.

Engage front line colleagues though effective communication, active listening, and recognition.

The Workshop Manager will ensure that standard policies and procedures are adopted within the depot and will ensure that the daily Run in/Run out process is supported with effective allocation of resources.

Ensuring vehicle downtime is kept to a minimum and visual satisfaction to all is maintained.


Responsibilities

  • Manage the Depot Maintenance, Cleaning and Servicing teams in accordance with Rotala policies, standard operating procedures, and all relevant legislation to ensure vehicles comply with all statutory regulations
  • Ensure that the engineering team are competently trained, and to achieve agreed establishment requirements
  • Efficiently allocate planned and unplanned work across the engineering team, including covering on the day absence.
  • Ensure the availability of vehicles in line with operational requirements.
  • Support the induction and development of an engaged, talented, and high performing engineering team, nurturing an innovative and continuous improvement culture
  • Conduct any disciplinary, grievance or absence management reviews in accordance with Company policy
  • In line with standard policies and procedures, plan and manage the maintenance and servicing of the fleet, ensuring vehicles comply with all statutory regulations
  • Work alongside the Stores Person to ensure optimum management of stock, including accurate and timely processing of warranty claims and Stock Queries.
  • Maintain depot plant and equipment, ensuing all external contract maintenance is carried out in line with contractual agreements
  • Ensure accurate capture and recording of all hours worked.
  • Maintain accurate records for all aspects of engineering standards and performance, including fleet and environmental management
  • Daily monitoring and ensuring compliance of full fleet and parts issued/missing with our electronic fleet management system Freeway.
  • Ensure a comprehensive hand over and coordination across shifts.
  • Perform regular audits to confirm compliance with legislative and company standards
  • Improve engineering and environmental performance in a sustainable manner, with a key focus on improving lost miles and breakdowns, resulting in delivery of agreed key performance indicators
  • Deliver agreed performance improvement plans and engineering costs within set budgets
  • Ensure positive working relationships are maintained between operations and engineering functions to ensure a consistent customer experience
  • Other duties commensurate with the role as may be deemed appropriate by the line manager


Hours of Work

You are required to work 45 hours per week, you may be required to work weekends and anti-social hours as well as statutory holidays. A flexible approach toward working hours is required to ensure effective cover throughout each day of operation.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong Engineering background.
  • Level 3 HGV City & Guilds/NVQ or equivalent.
  • Possession of a Manager CPC or willingness to work towards this.
  • Knowledge of employment, safety, and Environmental legislation. a professional qualification would be desirable or equivalent company recognised qualification. Training must be undertaken, and requisite results achieved within agreed timeframes.
  • Strong people management abilities.
  • An ability to regulate employees through motivational engagement
  • An appropriate level of Computer/IT skills with essential organisational aptitude
  • Self-reliant and straightforward communicator with skill sets to promote the customer facing business, in a positive light with the capacity to inspire in a structured and encouraging way
  • The role will require the successful candidate to attend regular face to face review meetings, so a professional manner, can-do attitude and good communication skills are a must.
